FORMER CHILD

Hello Friends:

I get nervous, at this time of year, when adults start talking about graduations for preschoolers, mother’s day gifts, etc.  Here is this months newsletter to help remind us what is relevant and appropriate.

Enjoy

Hello Friends:

The March Newsletter topic came from a reader.

Hello Friends:
This newsletter is based on a word that I often hear on my travels around the
country.  "Friends" is commonly used by early childhood professionals to make
announcements, to call attention or for transitions.  Are young children really
"friends" or are they "intruders?"  Enjoy.
Peace
Dan

ps. please avoid using this address to make comments or suggestions. It is for
the newsletter mailing list only.

Hello Friends:
With the movement to increase quality care for children and families lots of
attention is being given to equipment and curriculum design, staff
qualifications, and room arrangement.  All of which is important in supporting
quality.  My concern is that the "Heart" and "Soul" of the program is being
ignored.  Without "Heart" and "Soul" children's needs are often replaced with
adult's expectations.
This new year I hope we can bring back the "Heart" and "Soul".  This newsletter
will perhaps explain what that includes.
Enjoy....
Happy New Years

Hello Friends:
Bev Bos, teacher, author, consultant, and friend says, "Adults need to be less
egocentric than children". The Holiday times are probably when this statement
is most true.
Gift giving, Santa lines, all of this frenzy is very stressful and not very
"child friendly".
Thus, the December newsletter topic. It might be one you will want to share
with your parents/guardians.
I hope that all of you have a joyous, peaceful and FUN Holiday and New Year.

Hello Friends:
Fall is upon us and some parts of the country are getting to view the wonders of
nature as the trees begin to change into their vibrate color arrangements....

Was visiting a preschool program last month and one of the activities during
"circle time" was the calendar. Therefore this newsletter suggests a different
experience for children.

Just a gentle reminder. Please avoid using this email address for any other
mailings. People are receiving other mailings, newsletters, etc. If you wish
to email me my address is DKJ5075@aol.com

Peace to You

Hello Friends:
I cannot believe it is September already....What happened to the summer months?
In Maine it is already getting cooler, the marshes are beginning to turn that
rusty color and many of the schools have started back. I hope your summer has
been a good one!

When I present a workshop on guidance and discipline the subject of Clean Up
time is always brought up...It is important to note that Clean Up Time is not
the most important part of the day. Thus September's Newsletter.

Hello Friends:
One of the questions that is frequently asked at workshops I present is my
opinion on Themes.  My thoughts regarding this subject has evolved over the
years but my belief about what children need has remained consistent.  We need
to "hang" around children to find out what is important to them.
Hopefully this newsletter might add some insight on this subject.

Hello Friends:

It is important, when working with children, that we provide as many opportunities as possible for them to feel successful. Feeling failure impacts children in a very negative way.  Hopefully this newsletter will help you understand how important this subject is.
Hoping you are enjoying your summer months…..

Peace
